Classroom Management: Rule #1
Keeping students on task is the most important rule of all. If your students are doing what they should be doing, then you don't have any management problems.
How do you get students on task? Classroom procedures and routines is your solution. Once students enter your room, the students should follow a routine up until you dismiss your class. You create routines by procedures. Students should be working on a warm-up right when the starting bell rings. This is a good routine to get your students on task in your class. A list of good classroom procedures are covered on the following page.
How do you keep them on task? Have lessons that the students actually want to learn. The other nine rules help keep students on task. As you can see, everything comes back to curriculum.
Every student is different. Writing lessons that every student will want to learn is difficult. If you threw an ice cream party, would every student be happy? Probably not. What about students who are lactose intolerant? They might feel left out or different.
Lesson Plans Inc. strives to create great curriculum. We incorporate multiple learning styles in our lesson plans. While it is hard for every lesson to meet the needs of all your students, you can meet their needs by using multiple lessons. This is why we encourage teachers to submit their own lesson plans on our website. That means when you register, you will have access to our lesson plans and lesson plans that teachers submit. Writing curriculum is an ever evolving process and we want you to be part of that process.
